I have acquired my own D3100 for a few weeks at this point and I certainly enjoy it. I cannot comprehend any person would give this particular camera below a 4-star rating. This is a mid-range DIGITAL SLR designed for novice photographers who already possess a few knowledge regarding these kind of cameras. It isn’t challenging to learn with a little exploration.

Pros: The photo quality is amazing for a 14mp. You can find the typical selections for different quality settings, RAW images, etc. I prefer the several functions included to edit some of the photos while on the digital camera, which includes fish eye lens effect and monochrome. (If you do not have Photoshop, this can be a fantastic feature). The 1080p video feature is rather awesome. I filmed a brief video for work, and the quality has been superior to the “professional” that they hired recently. Large 3″ LCD display is great.

Cons: The application included does not contain the editing functions which are on the digital camera itself, nor a video clipping solution. As a substitute, I simply import through the SD card and edit them using Photoshop. The video clips are formatted into MOV files, which can’t be edited effortlessly on a Windows PC. I downloaded application in order to convert them into AVI files, nevertheless this results in a loss of some quality within the videos. I find clipping the videos within the digital camera to be troublesome. Furthermore, the remote shutter release (for long exposures) can’t be manipulated wirelessly (like the good old D50) so you have to purchase a separate shutter release cord.

Overall, it’s a fantastic digital camera for an ethusiast or amateur. The cost is not way too pricey.
